After 7

After 7 came about during the 90’s, they were a solid male group who performed in the styles of vintage soul or new jack swing. Melvin and Kevin Edmonds; were the brothers of R&B/Soul superstar Babyface. The third member of After 7 was Keith Mitchell, and he was a cousin of Babyfaces long time collaborator/friend/partner, L.A Reid. In 1989 After 7 signed a recording contract with Virgin Records and had success straight away with their LP entitled ‘After 7’.

Biography

This success would give them a promising career in music ahead, and hits such as ‘Can’t Stop’ and ‘Heat of the Moment’, can all be heard on radio stations that play true R&B music. The album didn’t only promise them a career it receive platinum status. In 1991, they released a song called ‘Nights Like This’ for a soundtrack called ‘The Five Heartbeats’. In 1992, ‘Takin My Time’ was out, they returned with a confident single, which featured a cover of The Originals ‘Baby I’m For Real’. The last recording they would have out would be entitled ‘Reflections’, way back in 1995, this included a song called ‘Til You Do Me Right’. After 7 split when Mitchell decided to break away to and pursue his solo career, and continue singing. In 1997, After 7’s was over and the two brothers became the Edmonds Brothers, performing/releasing the cover of Hall & Oates ‘Sara Smile’. Since the departchur of Mitchell, the Edmonds Brothers struggled to keep afloat, so eventually they disappeared from the music world, but the two have reunion’s, performing in venues for the die hard After 7 fans. Kevin and Melvin both featured with brother Babyface in the movie Soul Food, they played a role as an R&B group ‘Milestone’, during the movie the band would sing/perform a track called ‘I Care About You’. Kevin Edmonds released a solo LP, in 1999, which featured a single on it called ‘24/7’.
