American singer/songwriter Amel Larrieux, was born in New York City’s,
Greenwich Village, her mother was a dance critic and professor named
Brenda Dixon Gottschild. She was always a creative minded person since
a tender age, and fortunately was surrounded by talented family
members and inspiring artists. She calls her sound ‘Amel’s Music’,
with fusions as vast as Middle Easter, West African and Indian ethnic
styles to more contemporary styles like R&B, Soul, Jazz, Hip-Hop and
Gospel. Amel Larrieux began her music career as vocalist for R&B duo
Groove Theory, with member Bryce Wilson, she sung on tracks such
as ‘Tell Me’, ‘Keep Trying’ and others. She later released a solo
album after her experiences with one Sweetback recording called ‘You
Will Rise’. This album was under Epic Records, entitled ‘Infinite
Possibilities’, where she would co-write and co-produce with her
husband Laru Larrieux. ‘Get Up’ was the song that got some buzz, but
her album didn’t too as well as anticipated. Her sweet like tones and
broad vocal abilities; can also be discovered on ‘Bravebird’,
distributed through her own label Blisslife Records.
