This African American vocalist has sung backgrounds for diverse
artists such as Faith Evans, Aretha Franklin and Brian McKnight. She
also appeared as a guest vocalist for hit singles like Mariah
Carey’s “Fantasy”, The Notorius B.I.G’s “Mo Money Mo Problems” and
Whitney Houston’s “Heartbreak Hotel”. Kelly’s debut album, ‘Soul of a
Woman’, in 1998 on Island Records, contained her first hit
single ‘Friend of Mine’, the remix of this song featured R. Kelly and
Ronald Isley. Kelly Price was born April 4th, 1973 in Queens, New
York. She one a Grammy for best African American R&B and soul singer,
the female flagship on the Def Soul label. Price made her mark as a
performer during the 90’s, and in return she lost over 100 pounds to
aid her health. ‘Mirror Mirror’ was her second album on Def Soul, in
2000. The cover of Shirley Murdock’s ‘As We Lay’; was a hit in 1983,
and Kelly does a stunning cover of this, with soul drenched vocals.
There is a song on this album that was produced by Teddy Riley
called ‘Love Sets You Free’.
