Biography
Snowboy

No one is more important in Latin music today for keeping the true sound of Mambo alive than the UK based Afro Cuban percussionist, bandleader, DJ, music critic, journalist and promoter Snowboy!

Featured in the Who’s Who of Latin Music, Snowboy has released 11 albums and 17 singles in a career that spans over 15 years and has taken him and his authentic Afro Cuban sound to concert stages all over the world! Snowboy with his band The Latin Section, comprising the creme of the UK’s Latin Jazz musicians, carries the torch with their authentic Latin Jazz style. Together they create a sound which whilst encompassing the influences from the masters of the genre, is also highly capable of intense swing and verve. Snowboy and the Latin Section have developed a unique and often identifiable sound in Latin dance music, something that is apparently hard to do, especially in the Latin jazz arena. Percussively explosive uptempo original compositions, at times tinged with folklore that continues their quest to keep the music exciting and to keep the dancers dancing.

2003 was the year that Snowboy signed to the forward thinking dance label : - Chilli Funk Records and the first output was the amazing collaboration with DJ Dr Bob Jones on the 12” ‘It’s About Time’. Snowboy and the Latin Sections new album called ‘New Beginnings’ will be released in May after which a UK tour and European festival tour to promote the album will take them through the Summer. Snowboy continues to be active as one of the worlds leading DJ’s and will join Keb Darge for a tour celebrating the 10th anniversary of ‘Deep Funk’ as well as a DJ tour to promote his upcoming compilation ‘Snowboy presents Future Jazz Dance’. On the recording side there are collaborations planned for a Latin/Funk album project for Kenny Dopes/Keb Darges new label with The New Mastersounds and a reworking of a Jazz dance classic with Seiji, as well as production/writing work on the new album for the Legendary songstress Linda Lewis. As if this isn’t enough he is also researching and writing a book on the history of the UK’s Jazz dance scene! New Beginnings is more a feeling than a reality. Snowboy has been as busy as ever but at this time of planned intense activity it feels more like a new beginning rather than a continuation.
