Trina Broussard received her first big break when she covered soul
legend Minnie Ripperton’s hit ‘Inside My Love’ for the Larenz Tate
movie Love Jones. Trina Broussard signed her first major deal with
Jermaine Dupri’s So So Def label, and here she worked and wrote for
such artists as Aretha Franklin. This proved that she had more soul in
her than everyone thought, and was immediately signed to
Motown/Universal Records to release her own project ‘Same Girl’. Her
unreleased record ‘Inside My Love’ was a stunning album, and I
personally prefer it to the more R&B tinged ‘Same Girl’, but
nonetheless Broussard has a lot of soul and talent to offer. However,
the reviews and critics were very positive about her music but
audiences failed to latch on to it due to lack of promotion. Trina
Broussard has been quiet since her official release but still crops up
on stage around the USA. Her influences ranged from Anita Baker,
Stevie Wonder, and Donny Hathaway, and grew up in a musical family.
Her musical career began in Houston, TX, but decided to relocate to
Atlanta, GA in the 90’s. She started singing backing vocals for Bobby
Brown, Babyfacfe, Mariah Carey Toni Braxton and Bebe & CeCe Winans,
since she had moved to Atlanta.
